Weekend Roadtrip

Me, my mom, and the girls went on a road trip Saturday. We went to see my grandma, who is very sick in the hospital in McAlester. It was a hard day. With a combination of old age, diabetes, pancreatic cancer, double pneumonia, being in ICU, and being on a ventilator, things don't look good. My mother and I spent time with Granddad at the hospital and talked, and we're very realistic about the entire situation. None of us want her to suffer and I think watching her on those machines made that even clearer! God is good and I know he loves and protects, he will get us through.

And you know a road trip with me, my mom and the girls....something is going to happen! So here ya go.....

When we arrived in McAlester I took the girls by to see my granddad at the hospital (they couldn't see her due to the ICU, which I am glad about.) Then I took them to my Nana's house (my other grandma lives in Mac town too!) I left them there and I went back to the hospital for the afternoon and the girls loved spending the day with Nana getting spoiled, and waited on hand and foot.

We finally leave town around 5:15. We're loaded up and we've had a hard, but good day. As we are driving out of town Addy says "momma my tummy hurts". "Do you need to eat or poop?" I ask. "No!" (Now a side note here is I am driving my moms brand new car with leather, the thing even smells new!) And I say to my mom under my breath "If she throws up in this car, I will have heart failure!" About that time, from deep within, that child pukes more than I have ever seen in my life! I swerve off the road, we get her out (luckily my mom had baby wipes and a bottle of water, or we would have been in serious trouble!) We get her cleaned up (as best we can) and put her in her nightgown. Then mom and I clean up at a nearby gas station. We get on the turnpike and here she goes again, mom is climbing over the seat holding a bag for Addy to puke in, I'm trying to drive, and Lily is saying "Just don't think about throwing up Addy, look out the window or something!" My mom yells "Can't you call Danny Proctor and have him get us a trooper to escort us home???" (She always thinks so logically in situations like this!)

We get to this spot and pull over, and get cleaned up again. Then I get out and get in the back seat sandwiched in between "Pukizoid and Captain Obvious" Lily was saying things like "Gross I can smell it!! this is sickening! can't she stop?" I lost it..."Lily do you not think we know that? We had to clean it up! It is sick, we know that!!! Now sit there and be quiet!" She didn't move, or talk again!

It was the longest 2 hour drive in history, but we made it home. Addy survived. Lily survived. Mom and I survived. The new car smell....didn't survive!!!! (Sorry dad!!)

i am sorry it was such a hard trip in all aspects... I hope Lily avoided the sickness and Addy is better!! I pray for the memories of your grandma to bring joy at this difficult time of seeing her so sick!

That is so funny, sad, and gross. And if I get this stomach bug that's going around, I'm going to scream. I HATE that thing.

So did Lily start complaining of the gross smell before or after you got in the backseat with them? It might not have been the throw up at all...love you and your blog!
